KEITH NELSON
We’ve been lucky enough to see the work of Milwaukee artist Keith Nelson in person, and we are huge fans. These seemingly simple installations are so clever and thoughtfully composed that they leave quite a lasting impression.
Here is what Keith says about his work: “My current body of work is intended to re-contextualize certain post-painterly/minimalist strategies. I am using “common” materials and mutable installations to subvert the dogmatic tenets of painting while expanding its boundaries. I’m also employing a methodology that leads me to decisions that I wouldn’t otherwise make. Discovering relationships by finding, arranging and reconfiguring the previously unknown is where painting lives for me. My belief is that painting is not a literal term but rather this specific mode of creative thinking.”

We were so pumped to meet Wayne White on Sunday! And of course, we gave him a copy of the magazine in hopes of turning him into a Fine Line fan!We recommend that you all see “Beauty Is Embarrassing”, the funny, inspiring and emotional story of Wayne White’s career as an artist. If you’re in Milwaukee, it is screening tonight and Thursday night, just visit the Milwaukee Film Festival website for more info. If you don’t live in Milwaukee, try to see it anyway! It will be out on DVD (and hopefully on Netflix) this January.

EMILY BELKNAP
We’ve been fans of Emily’s work for years, we even included the Milwaukee-based artist in our first exhibition at The Armoury Gallery. Her pieces are magical and disarming, their minimal execution inducing of a feeling of peace, balanced with a subtle tension as she addresses the barriers and endless horizons that confront us everywhere.

SHANA McCAW & BRENT BUDSBERG
We’ve been bigs fans of the Milwaukee based artistic duo Shana McCaw and Brent Budsberg for a while now. We even showed some of their awesome, temporary installation work at our last gallery opening. More recently, in the Spring of 2011, they completed a residency in Wendover, UT, where they made this beautiful series of photographs based on characters they had created at a previous performance. They describe the images as “a dreamlike series of futile tasks and arduous journeys”.

ERIN DORBIN
Milwaukee artist Erin Dorbin is more than a fine art photographer, she is a talented historian and documentarian as well. Using a combination of still photography, video and audio recordings she memorializes her surroundings (many in the Midwest) in hopes of connecting people to their environment and community in a meaningful way.

EMILY PORTER
Here’s proof that you don’t need a ton of experience to have a whole lot of talent! Milwaukee based photographer Emily Porter just graduated with a BFA from the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (that’s in our home town, and my alma mater!) and already she has an absolutely beautiful portfolio of work.
