Artist Interview: Amanda Friedman

We featured the work of Amanda Friedman in our second issue and have been huge fans of her’s ever since. Along with being a great fine art photographer, Amanda is an extremely talented portrait photographer (seriously, you should check out her website, the number of actors she’s shot is amazing). In order to get to know a little most about her, we sent her some prompts (in bold), and she told us a little about herself.

PAST
I always loved… music.
I grew up… in the midwest.
Growing up… I was obsessed with the movie Xanadu.
As a child I always wanted… gum/candy/anything with sugar.
My parents… divorced when I was 4.
My mother… is obsessed with wild animals.
My father… is pretty funny.
High school was… awkward but fun.
Growing up, I always wanted to be… cool.
I never saw myself… living in Los Angeles.
College was… hazy.
Art was… my favorite subject.

PRESENT
Right now I want… a Brussels Griffon.
I’ve always wondered… what it would feel like to shoot for VOGUE.
I do not know… calculus.
I wish I knew… Spanish.
Routine is… not something I’m interested in.
Working… is something I LOVE to do because I LOVE by job!
I choose to work in my medium because… its a challenge and you get instant gratification.
I wish I could…. travel more.
I feel at home… when I’m home.
My favorite vegetable is… green beans.
On a rainy day… I love to get under a big blanket with coffee and watch a movie.
A perfect day… begin with sleeping in.
We could all use a little more… sleep.
I am a big believer in… maintaing a low stress life.
A little known secret about me… I am an only child.
Art is… something that inspires me everyday.
Life is… not long enough.
I like to pretend… I’m a really good cook.
I am full of… sarcasm.
My parents… have always gotten along.
I get bored… waiting in line.
FUTURE
Someday I want… to retire in Hawaii.
The future… is something I look forwad to.
I’d like to be… doing more of what I’m doing now.
My next step… is to get gallery representation in NYC.
